CFL 2nd Year Anniversary

I cannot believe that it’s CFL 2nd Year Anniversary.  It has been two years since we picked up the keys for our farm property!!  The years have passed by so quickly. Some days, it makes me anxious to think about ALL of the projects that we still NEED to do.  Such as, updating the farmhouse, building a garden, adding fences and finishing landscaping. That doesn’t include getting animals like chickens and ducks, which we were DEFINITELY going to do as soon as we got the keys! #farmfail

CFL 2nd year anniversary

BUT, even though we have a long list of to-do’s still, I am thankful for the improvements that we have made as they are BIG ones; the barn addition, the fishing pond build, tree management and clearing and foundation repairs on the farmhouse. ALL those things add up to a big WIN.  I’m thankful to have a CFL 2nd year anniversary.

The Truth IS.

I have to remind myself, that even in the midst of the Covid pandemic, we still moved mountains over here. God moved mountains…and we just went along for the ride.

TRUTH bomb…in the beginning I wasn’t even sure how long we would keep the farm. The original purpose was to have some land as a weekend getaway – not a FARM! We still had a house in the city and mentally I wasn’t completely ready to pack it up and move to the COUNTRY.  So, for the first 18 months, we only came out to the farm on the weekends to enjoy the quiet and the scenery. Needless to say, it’s hard to get a lot of work done when you’re only out on the weekends. 😉

Looking Back

That’s why I wanted to take a look back at all the projects (planned an unplanned) that we completed over the last two years and then talk about what ideas we have for the upcoming year – 2021 in the next blog post.

A Quick Recap of the Top 5 Projects We Completed

Farmhouse Upgrades & Repairs

  • Lifted the side porch – Used a foam service that lifted and levelled out the side porch area.
  • Cleaned out the fireplace – This fireplace is my nemesis…it is the ugliest thing I have ever seen! AND it’s the first thing you see when you walk in the door. A major focal point and it has GOT TO GO!
  •
In the beginning, we just wanted to make sure it was safe to use – so we cleaned it. You can count on seeing MORE of the fireplace project in the months to come.
  • Patched and Painted the
  • Master Bedroom – I was so excited to clean up the master bedroom and add a fresh coat of paint in Accessible Beige. It came out beautiful…until the walls started buckling and cracking from foundation movement. Turned out that we needed to do some foundation repairs FIRST. DOH!
  • Painted the upstairs rooms: Green room and Gray guest bedroom
  • Refurbished the upstairs bathroom
  • Foundation repair

Land Improvements and Maintenance

    • Planted Crepe Myrtles – We found 20 small crepe myrtles on clearance at Lowe’s. So, we snatched them up with the hopes of adding some color to the property.
    • Dug out a fishing pond
    • Tree Trimming and Removal – Adding paths and clearing trails around the land.
    • Chopped some wood – Because that’s what you’re SUPPOSED to do out in the country!
    • Burned some wood – Because if you CHOP IT – You must BURN IT!

Farm Curb Appeal

    • Installed the front gate – Had to have a formal entry area and the gate let people know that new owners were around.
    • Installed a new mailbox – The old one was on the neighbor’s lot and held up by a tree branch.
    • Sold the green trailer home – I just don’t know what to say about this one. It was a clean little trailer, but it had dropped ceilings so you could barely stand up in it. In the end, it was better to say our Good-Bye’s and pass it along to someone who needed it. So we sold it and cleared it out.
    • Decorated the front porch – Gotta make it LOOK like HOME.

Installed a BIG RED BARN – It’s really the focal point of our land now.

Enjoyed LIFE

    • Watched our neighbor’s SHEEP and COWS – Because we don’t have our own herd yet and they are so fun to observe.
    • Had some BBQ’s, fireworks and fun times with family and friends

I’m pretty sure there were some more things that we completed in the first 2 years, but for now, I think you get the point….there is ALWAYS something to do on the FARM (even when it’s not a farm).

Watch for our next post as we talk about what our goals and plans are for NEXT year – 2021!

We’ll see how much we get accomplished now that we’re living here FULL TIME.  If you’ve been following along with us on our FARM REHAB journey and made it to our CFL 2nd year anniversary, let us know what YOU would like to see us work on next. I would love to hear your ideas.

Best Wishes,

Anne
