Butterflies – Monarch or Viceroy?

Butterflies – Monarch or Viceroy?

Challenge of the day…What species of butterfly is it?

We found these lovely butterflies near the stream this weekend. They are more beautiful in person and larger than a lot of the butterflies that we see on the farm.

What do you think…are these Monarch butterflies, Viceroy butterflies or some other species?

I did some searching and ended up at Save Our Monarchs , which had some very cool information on butterflies. My guess is that this is the Viceroy butterfly, because of the markings. Not sure if that’s good or bad, but either way, I’ll take it! (Butterflies = Good in my book.)

Check out the video of these butterflies hanging out.

There is something so joyful about a butterfly. It’s like they inspire hope in you….that all things can be made new. And in these times, I think we all could use a little more HOPE.

I hope today you are inspired to be like the BUTTERFLIES and try or be something NEW.

Keep following us at @CrazyFarmLiving as we continue to discover new things on the farm.

What is THAT spider?!

What is THAT spider?!

What type of spider do you think THAT is?

Ohhh my goodness!! There are so many bugs out in nature. It gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it!

This spider was hanging from the eaves of the house. At least I think he’s a spider! I’ve never seen one this enormous. When you included the length of his legs, he was about 4″ tall!

We couldn’t get very close, nor did I want to, but you can see that he was not the kind of spider that you want crawling under your house.

The good news…he was catching all kinds of insects in his web. So, yeah for spiders that eat other bugs.

Do you think it’s a FRIEND (aka: circle of life kind of good) or a FOE (aka: that’s going to HURT when he bites you) kind of spider?

Let us know what crosses your mind when you see this spider!

Stay tuned for more unbelievable looking insects as we clean up around the farm.
