January 2020 | Crazy Farm Living
When in doubt, haul it out!

When in doubt, haul it out!

It’s such a challenge to get any work done when it’s cold and rainy in January. BUT that didn’t stop us from taking one of the first steps in cleaning up the BONEYARD area….aka trash removal!

Now, we want to repurpose things any way that we can, but Frank and I have been stumped on what to do with some of the rather random furnishings (sinks, bathtub, food processor) left on the land from the last owner. (Serious head scratching….like… what were they thinking??? 🤷‍♀️)

Random sinks

After a year ….we have decided that WHEN IN DOUBT – HAUL IT OUT!

So, Frank posted an ad looking for anyone willing to take it all away for a $100. AND THEY DID!

Amazingly, there were quite a few people willing to come and take the junk off our hands. I’m not sure if they planned to just take it to the dump or if they were going to repurpose it. Either way, I was just DELIGHTED to see it gone!

And…not surprisingly…we ran in to some challenges in the process of cleaning up the junk. The ground was just too soggy from the rain and the extra weight in the trailer bed, so the guy’s truck got stuck in the mud when he was trying to leave.

Fortunately, Frank was able to use our truck to pull him out and get him on his way. It left some decent size ruts in the ground, but nothing the tractor can’t fix.

There is something that is so freeing about being clutter and junk free. We can actually see the trees and the land again, and that brings me joy.

New Year-New Fridge

New Year-New Fridge

We are kicking off 2020 with a NEW refrigerator for the farmhouse! Yahoo! I am so excited!

I know you’re thinking…Really?…What’s so exciting about a new fridge? Well, let me tell you that this fridge is really just a symbol of how much we’re enjoying farm life (surprisingly) and the things to come!

When we first bought the property there was this green camper trailer next to the house. It had a kitchenette with this little 9.5 cu ft fridge inside. We took the fridge out of the trailer and put it in the farmhouse and then sold off the trailer. We weren’t really sure if we were going to enjoy being at the farm or if the nostalgia of farm life was going to wear off after a few months. So, we decided to get by with the smaller fridge until we were a little more committed to farm living.

Well,we’ve been using the little fridge for a year now and it’s been just fine. BUT it barely holds any food and the freezer needs de-icing on a regular basis….and let’s be honest…no one wants to make de-icing a habit.

Fortunately, Home Depot was having a fantastic sale on appliances and we were able to get a new 18 cu ft refrigerator for a bargain price. It’s not a jumbo size fridge and it doesn’t have any special features, but for just the two of us it should work out nicely.

New frig
So we officially up-sized our farm fridge from a 9.5 cu ft Kenmore to an 18 cu ft Frigidaire. Yep, it’s just a weee bit bigger.

For the color, I was torn between white or stainless steel, but I really think the white will match the farmhouse decor so much better. So, white it is.

(And yes, in case you noticed…the kitchen cabinets are pink. Yep, PINK! One of the other farmhouse projects is to upgrade the outdated Eisenhower pink cabinets. Lol)

That’s the FIRST task checked off on the 2020 Project ListUpgrade fridge! Sweeeetness.

So, the bigger fridge means we’re all in on our Crazy Farm Living adventure and that we’ll be doing more and more to turn this place in to a sustainable small farm and farm business.

For now, I look forward to putting the new fridge to good use during holidays and visits with family and friends this year. Stay with us as we keep upgrading the farmhouse @crazyfarmliving.
